I knew it would come back and rear its ugly head at some point and it happened yesterday. Last night rather. I was in the car and I just happened to be listening to the radio. DJ E- Feezy had invited DJ Marlei Mar down to the station just to kick it and talk about what's what. What was what yesterday happened to be Young Valinchi. DJ E Feezy went IN on Valinchi and must have talked about dude for like 45 minutes. He said he would make him famous. Whether you heard DJ E Feezy's broadcast or not, First let me give you some background:
1. Almost 2 months ago (Damn, It doesn't seem that long), During the second State of the Union of Hip-Hop In Kentucky [click here to read], DJ E Feezy was the main topic of discussion, but also the lack of airplay local artists are receiving with E-Feezy at the helms at B 96. E-Feezy was on stage defending himself and the lack of power he has in getting particular records into rotation, when the topic came up of artists on the radio before he got here and the "Louisville" sound. Feezy mentioned hearing an artist, who's name he didn't remember, who had a song on the radio that was real popular that was called "Crank It or Crank That or something like that". Feezy then said he remember hearing the song before but by a different artist. He said he had heard the song and it was almost identical to the one the artist from Louisville was doing but he had heard it a long time ago in Atlanta by artists called "Cash Clay" or something like that? and it was a super smash hit in Atlanta but didn't do much outside of the region so if you hadn't been to Atlanta, you may not know about this song and this artist that a Louisville artist was imitating. Someone else on the panel mentioned that the way they heard the story was that it was the DJ's fault. The DJ (who was mentioned by name now) was DJ D Ceezy who had given Young Valinchi a disc of beats and he just made songs to the beats and before he knew it, Crank That had taken off as a hit because it was on a mixtape! At this point the "oohing" and "aahhing" started because people began to recognize who E-Feezy was talking about. People from the audience started shouting for E-Feezy to name who he was talking about because at this point, no one had said Young Valinchi's name yet. E-Feezy said he wasn't going to do that, and Da Show Host and Co-CEO T-Made (who was the moderator for the night) said he would say the artists name. It was Young Valinchi. T-Made said we need to put everything out on the table and be clear about what and who we were talking about. Needless to say, this started a whole lot of controversy.

2. (Speaking from Third Party Reference) Young Valinchi called T-Made and discussed the whole matter and at one point, T-Made put DJ E-Feezy and Young Valinchi on the phone together to try and squash the beef. However, Young Valinchi was unsatisfied and wanted DJ E-Feezy to make a public apology on his show and invite him down to the studio to hear Young Valinchi's side of the story. He said if this did not happen, then he was going to release a "diss" record he made about DJ E-Feezy and "murder his career". T-Made said that he didn't think this was the way to go and he might want to leave this alone and if he wanted, Da Show could try to accomodate in some way to help Young Valinchi get his point out to the people. Young Valinchi wasn't hearing any of that and released the "diss" record anyway.
Fast Forward to the Present - So DJ E-Feezy is talking ON AIR about how Young Valinchi released this "diss" record about him a couple of months ago
online and how people had been checking it out because it had nearly a thousand plays. But E-Feezy decided to put the record on, Bring back the "old" format of "Hit It or Quit It" and let the people decide what THEY thought about the record. Feezy went on to say before he played the record that he liked the beat of the record and bobbed his head to it while laughing at everything that was said in the record. The track was called "Come Count This Money" because that is all Valinchi said that Dj E-Feezy could do for him was help him "Count that Money". After the track went off, E-Feezy dissected certain lnes from song. He talked about how Valinchi had shouted out a bunch of people on the track like it wasn't going to get back to him. Or maybe that was the point. He shouted out DJ Q, Kymp Kamp DJ's, a DJ from Memphis that used to work with Feezy and various other people. There was one line in the song where Valinchi said, "LS had me lookin fresh" that Feezy took issue with. "How another man gonna have you lookin fresh? You talking about countin money and being paid and another man had you fresh. What's that supposed to mean? How another man have you looking fresh?" Feezy said. Then in a surprise move (to me anyway), E-Feezy announced that he and Nova had recorded an answer record for Young Valinchi that he didn't know what to call at first, but DJ Marlei Mar called it the "bounce back" to Valinchi's diss record. He talked about how Nova recorded the "Ether" record, referencing the beef between Jay Z and Nas when Nas recorded the knock out punch to that beef, no matter how much better you might think Jay Z is, Nas murked Jay Z with that record. Anyway he was going to play Nova's answer and let the Louisville listening audience decide to "Hit It or Quit It"!
After Nova's "bounce-back" played, Feezy didn't say much, he just went straight to the phone lines. He probably took about 10-12 calls and EVERY ONE OF THOSE CALLS "quit" Valinchi's record. They called his record "garbage" and "trash" and couldn't understand how "Feezy could bob his head to that bullshit". No one had anything nice to say about Young Valinchi. They (Louisville listeners on the radio) said that Young Valinchi was just an opportunist and he was a hater to make a "diss" record about E-Feezy. Feezy even went as far as to say, that he didn't understand why Valinchi made a diss record about him, when he wasn't even the person who said Young Valinchi's name, it was T-Made. But since Valinchi is cool with T-Made, he wasn't going to release a "diss" record about him. Which matter of factly was correct. However, ...it was DJ E-Feezy that was loosely calling Young Valinchi "fake" because he was being accused of knowingly (or unknowingly, but that would be one HELL of a coincidence) stealing a song, the dance to go with it and even his name from the "A". That is where the beef originates.
To be honest about both songs, Young Valinchi's song did have a decent beat and could be considered catchy to some. However, in my opinion for it to
be a diss record, he really didn't do too much dissin'. He never mentioned DJ E-Feezy by name. What kind of diss is that? It felt like he tiptoed around the issues and it just became another regular rap record that wasn't hot. It could have been hot, if he had went IN and threw Feezy under the bus and put all grievances on the table, but he didn't. On the other hand, Nova's (and Feezy's) "bounce back" record was hot. It wasn't hot because it was something I want to play in the car, but for it to be an answer record to a diss record and since it was played right after the diss record, it was JOHN BLAZE because Nova went IN! He did not skirt around any issues and as a matter of fact, seemed to get personal. He hit Valinchi with hot line after hot line, talked about Valinchi's girl wanting to get with Nova's brother and putting Valinchi on blast. Not only that, the track was MAD CREATIVE. He started out by having DJ Q in the song and asking him to play Valinchi's song, then had Q turn it off, said it sound familiar and then told Dj Q to play the original track and then some scratching led into an old school verse from an MC Lyte song talking about biting and stealing tracks and songs and when Nova came in with his verse, my jaw was already on the floor of my car saying, "Wooooowwwwwww!"
It was mentioned on air by DJ Marlei Mar that there is a Part 2 of Young Valinchi's diss of DJ E-Feezy and allegedly this album is more hardcore and an actual diss. I don't know where this battle or beef is going to end but this could get interesting. As long as it stays on wax and doesn't get too
personal and become another hip-hop tragedy is cool. Someone once said, "There is no such thing as bad publicity". I don't know how true that is, but as long as you're on blast, I hope Young Valinchi s seizing the opportunity. Be an opportunist and seize the moment during this battle with E-Feezy. He was right. He IS going to make you famous. You better take advantage of that. I don't know how much more of this you can take.

several things are bothering me about this whole "beef" thing... 1.) Why won't eFeezy invite Valinchi on the radio, or agree to hold a public forum for both parties to bring their side of the story to the table? 2.) At the time of the State of the Union forum, "Crank It" was already 2 yrs old. Why would eFeezy bring it up two years later? 3.) Why is eFeezy criticizing Valinchi for a mixtape track that gained a street buzz?? It is standard practice to re-do other people's songs on mixtapes using the original artists' instrumentals. It is an insult to Louisville heads to say that they never heard the original--Cash Clay's "Hey DJ." 4.) Why would Feezy criticize Valinchi for "Crank It," yet he himself used to spin it in the clubs and occasionally on the radio shortly after he came to Louisville? 5.) Why did eFeezy publicly give Valinchi a shout-out when he was doing his dj set at the Trey Songz concert? Valinchi, eFeezy, and dCeezy were all in the same building at the same time practically right next to each other. eFeezy gave shout outs on the microphone to Valinchi and Ceezy. What part of the game is that?? 6.) Last but not least, why is Feezy, who has public radio & satellite radio exposure and more, wasting his time & energy smearing an up-and-coming underground rapper from Louisville? Seems to me like Valinchi would be at the bottom of his list of priorities. Clearly Feezy has the ability to be heard by more people than Valinchi. There is something more to why he's taking his time to talk about this guy in public venues without Valinchi being present to defend himself...but hey' that's my humble opinion. |
